New Studio to Offer Classes Designed to Optimize Physical Health Through
Strength, Flexibility, Focused Awareness and Overall Well-Being

PHOENIX – A late May grand opening is planned for the Valley’s eighth Sumit’s Yoga at Stetson Village Shopping Center, a 144,360-square-foot development located at the northeast corner of 39th Avenue and Happy Valley Road in northwest Phoenix.
According to Sumit Banerjee, owner and operator of the rapidly-expanding Yoga concept, the new location “will provide us with an outstanding location in one of the northwest Valley’s most vibrant shopping centers. Stetson Village provides us with high visibility and access to a number of new residential neighborhoods. We are looking forward to our grand opening later this month.”
Like his other locations, the new northwest Phoenix studio will be designed for beginning through advanced Yoga students, reinforcing Banerjee’s teaching philosophy of helping others realize the powerful wellness benefits of yoga, including a stronger, toned and more flexible body, and improved state of mind that encourages relaxation, self-acceptance and awareness.
Banerjee possesses a broad background in the practice and teaching of various yoga styles, including Bikram and Vinyasa. Designed for all levels, from beginner through advanced, Sumit’s Yoga is a balanced and complete mind-body-spirit practice that develops strength, flexibility, focused awareness and overall well-being.
Classes at Sumit’s Yoga – to be conducted in the new 3,091-square-foot studio – will flow to music through a sequence of balancing and energizing asanas (poses) in a heated practice environment.
Banerjee strongly believes in the healing aspect of heat. “It’s simple,” he said. “In a yoga class, you practice poses that require stretching and compression of the joints, muscles, ligaments and other supporting structures of the body which naturally protects itself from physical exertion by generating heat from the inside muscles outwards. We start with the heat up front, providing that extra protection from the very first poses. Another added benefit is that your body burns more calories in a heated environment. It’s not uncommon for our students practicing regularly to lose inches of shape in a relatively short time.”
Classes are designed to optimize physical health by “waking” and energizing the entire body. Banerjee stresses that the greatest benefit comes not as much from the healing of the body, but from the healing of the mind.
“The simple pleasure and self-reward that comes from quieting our minds and listening to each breath cannot be measured,” he said. “You do not measure your yoga practice by how many perfectly-aligned poses you can perform,” he asserts, “but by how deep you can immerse yourself inwards………..This is the beauty of yoga and it awaits every student who is ready to let go of the ego and begin listening to our own deeper wisdom.”
Other Sumit’s Yoga studios are located in Scottsdale (Scottsdale Road and Gold Dust and Hayden Road at Thompson Peak Parkway), Chandler, Phoenix (Biltmore area and Bell Road and 7th St.) and Gilbert.
Over the course of past six years, Stetson Village – which is anchored by a 57,860-square-foot Safeway Store – has “developed into a vibrant neighborhood shopping center that offers an array of new national and local retailers to the trade area, along with service uses and quality neighborhood restaurants,” according to James R. Pederson, vice president of leasing for The Pederson Group.
Stetson Village, which opened in November, 2008, incorporates an upscale design incorporating natural desert stones, stone tile, and a series of restaurant patios, upscale landscaping and a tree-lined entrance. It
is located in close proximity to some of the northwest area’s newest upscale residential developments, including Stetson Hills, a master-planned community anticipated to have approximately 4,000 new homes.
For more than 31 years The Pederson Group has been a premier Phoenix-based real estate development company specializing in upscale retail projects. The company has developed and remodeled more than 27 highly successful retail and mixed-use projects in the greater Phoenix area, and has developed shopping centers totaling more than five million square feet.
