World’s Largest Specialty Retailer of Nutritional Products, Nation’s Largest Tax Service Preparer Will Open New Locations at Palisades Boulevard, La Montana Drive Shopping Center

FOUNTAIN HILLS – Two of the country’s leading companies in their respective business categories have announced plans to open new retail operations at Fountain Hills Plaza, located at the southwest corner of Palisades Boulevard and La Montana Drive.

General Nutrition Center (GNC) and H&R Block, Inc. said they expect both of the new locations to be open sometime early in 2013.

GNC, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., is the largest global specialty retailer of nutritional products, including vitamins, mineral, herbal and other specialty supplements, and sports nutrition, diet and energy products. Known worldwide for providing the general public with high-quality products and a vast array of information on vitamins, weight gain and weight loss products, health foods and natural source beauty aids, GNC also offers a wide selection of male and female indoor and outdoor exercise clothing, exercise equipment, and exercise-related accessories.

Jason Bowles, leasing agent for The Pederson Group, developers of Fountain Hills Plaza, said the opening of the 1,400-square-foot GNC store “should be a valuable addition to our tenant mix by providing residents of Fountain Hills with a valuable resource in the area of nutritional products and health maintenance. GNC is recognized worldwide for its expertise in its highly-specialized product category, and will provide residents of the trade area with a wide selection of products having a positive impact on their quality of life.”

H&R Block, Inc. is the world’s largest tax services provider, having prepared more than 600 million tax returns worldwide since 1955. In fiscal 2012, the company prepared more than 25 million returns in its company-owned and franchise retail tax offices that are staffed by nearly 100,000 professional tax preparers, and through the company’s through H&R Block At Home™ digital products.

Scheduled to open in time for the upcoming tax season, the new 1,400-square-foot office marks the return of H&R Block to Fountain Hills Plaza from its most recent location in Eagle Mountain Village Marketplace.

Doug Salaway, H&R Block’s northeast Valley franchisee, said, “We look forward to our return to Fountain Hills Plaza, which will allow us to be closer to many of our clients in Fountain Hills who reside nearer to the center of town. Our new location will also allow us increased visibility, and provide us an opportunity to become more active in the local community.”

Salaway, who also operates 15 H&R Block offices in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Anthem, said the new offices “will help us better service the tax preparation needs of both our individual and business clients, and include some new design features providing added privacy and additional office space for our tax professionals.”

Originally constructed in 1986, Fountain Hills Plaza – located at the southwest corner of Palisades Boulevard and La Montana Drive – is a 124,500-square-foot center that underwent a $23 million renovation project that was completed in the summer of 2009. The center is anchored by a 49,967-square-Bashas’ Supermarket that was completely rebuilt during the renovation.
